Hey, Derek here. Lecrae is coming this Friday to the Orbit Room in Grand Rapids and it’s gonna be a great show. I was out on the I Am Second website and they just added a brand new video featuring Lecrae. If you want to get a look into who he is and his story it is well worth the time. Check it out at

Local Guy in TFK Contest
Thursday, April 7th, 2011Hey, check it out. TFK was going to be looking for a new guitar player but ended up staying with the same roster of guys. They decided for the peeps that entered the contest that they would let one winner play a show with them. There is a guy from West Michigan in the running but voting ends tomorrow night. Show some West Michigan Way FM love and go vote for him. All the deets are here with a link to the TFK facebook fan page below. Lindsey, who was part of the Russia Mission Team last year sent this via facebook:
My friend Jordan auditioned for TFK, they did a live guitarist
search. Then they cancelled the auditions cause their guitarist chose to
stay with the band, but they are doing a contest where the winner gets to
play a show. Jordan made it into the Top 10 (he is awesome!) and now it’s
based on fan votes. I wondered if you’d vote for him. It would be
awesome if a local guy won, and he has an amazing heart for Jesus and
awesome talent! So here is the link, he is listed as #7 – Jordan Leland ![]()
People just need to “like” the TFK page, if they haven’t already, and put
a comment that says JORDAN LELAND ![]()

Sometimes We Forget
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011I was supposed to meet a friend for hot chocolate yesterday and then go to a meeting that was important to me. I left work and went to the coffee shop and waited……and waited…..and waited. I tried to contact them and did not get a response. I still haven’t heard from them and it bothers me because this one hurt.
See, I really care deeply for people. Some say that is great, and most of the time I agree. There are those times when caring for people hurts. Then it starts to affect how you think about yourself, how you relate to others, even how you relate to God. As I was sitting there waiting I watched as people came and went and didn’t say anything, I felt…..alone.
I decided to not go to the meeting, and let a friend know that. They responded with a text that went “OK, God be with u”. My response tells a lot about where I was at. It was “He’s not, but thank you”. As I drove home and thought about that, I began to cry. It was as if God had seen what I had posted and let me know how that would feel. I have never felt so isolated in my life. I was completely numb. But the cool thing is that the story doesn’t end there.
I posted on Twitter and got some prayers and encouragement from people. God started to speak into my heart the truth about Himself. The Word says this “I will NEVER (emphasis mine) leave you or forsake you”. The reality is that God is always there even when we don’t feel it. And while the circumstance was painful, the joy that comes from knowing that He is always true to His Word brings a comfort that cannot be overwhelmed.
Thank you Papa for loving me, even when I forget.
I Don’t Know What To Say
Tuesday, March 15th, 2011That phrase “I don’t know what to say” may seem odd for a person who makes a living talking to people, but it is how I feel. I have been watching, along with so many others, the devastation in Japan. Day by day more bad news comes across the news channels and it seems like it won’t end. I have had the chance to see some of the videos online of the water as it just kept coming, and coming, and coming, destroying everything in it’s path.
So when I sat down to blog today I did not know what to say. I am blessed to have some pretty incredible friends and while I was sitting here thinking a blog post came from a good friend named Lisa who is a talented writer (among many other things creative) about how she is feeling and reacting to all that has and is happening. It hit so close to home and was so reflective of what I was trying to get across that I am just going to link to her post and let it do the “talking” for me. The link is http://studiojewel.blogspot.com/2011/03/japan-tribute-reminder-lack-of-words.html
I will add one thing to what Lisa wrote. She finished with this question, “How will you respond?” I want to challenge all of us to answer this question with more than just an emotional response and to DO something. Whether that is giving to one of the relief organizations, volunteering to help in some way with relief efforts or organizing and being a part of a prayer vigil, lets be the church and show Jesus love to those who are hurting.
Community Worship
Monday, January 24th, 2011Wow, so often when you are helping out doing technical things for a service or an event you miss so much of what is going on. Last night was NOT one of those nights. We had a community youth worship at my church and many different youth groups got together to do praise and worship and pray.
I am blessed to work with some gifted students in the tech area. Kyle on sound and Peit on the multimedia stuff. I am just there in case something goes really wrong. Last night everything went off without a problem and I got to sit back and watch the evening unfold. There is something very cool when people get together and all of the things that keep us from being unified go away.
What school you go to, what grade you are in, what church or denomination you belong to, what color you are, how old you are. None of that mattered. We were just a bunch of people who love Jesus worshipping together. It was a great night and I couldn’t help but smile and think that if this is even a glimpse of what heaven will be like, I am so looking forward to it.
