Caught this the other day on YouTube.
It’s amazing to see how much God can touch a life
through a song.

Fireflight Interview

Brittany March 7th, 2012 by Brittany

I had the pleasure of talking with Justin from Fireflight about their latest album “NOW” and how they beat each other up, ok, well I’m pretty sure he was kidding about that last part. – Britt

The case of the basket.

Tom March 4th, 2012 by Tom

So I’ve got this leftover gift basket from Christmas that I haven’t given to
a friend yet. It’s getting a bit late in the season to gift it. I’m hoping to
turn it into an Easter basket (still not sure how I can turn the santa-guy
into a bunny).

Childhood Movies

Brittany February 29th, 2012 by Brittany

I love $5 movie bins. You can always manage to find some sort of strange, obscure, long-lost movies that you haven’t seen in forever. Yesterday, I came upon this movie in one such bin.

I LOVED this movie when I was little. Actually it’s about saving a forest, and although the “bad guys” were people trying to clean up a chemical spill, I was TERRIFIED of them! :) If you would have asked me to name this movie, no way would I have been able to, but once I saw the cover…man, it brought back memories! What’s your favorite movie from your childhood?

I hate clowns

Brittany February 23rd, 2012 by Brittany

Clowns scare me. I don’t like the make-up. I don’t like the costumes. I don’t like that they laugh in you face. I don’t like them.

This clown might be the creepiest one I’ve ever seen!

Game Face

Tom February 19th, 2012 by Tom

How would you like this guy psyching you out while you are trying to finish your next big project?

Every time the opposing team tries to hit a free throw, he holds up a picture of his own face while making the same silly face.

What’s in a name?

Tom February 10th, 2012 by Tom

Talked today about a study that revealed that people with simple, easy to pronounce names are more likely to get promotions in the workplace. Made me start thinking about the importance of names, and the names of our God. He’s got some pretty hard to pronounce names, but you don’t get any higher than Him. Here’s a video on the names of God. Pretty powerful stuff. Blessings in Jesus (now there’s a name!),

Religion.

Zach February 9th, 2012 by Zach

For this year, I decided my time spent reading the Bible would be in books that I’d never read start-to-finish before. Last night I started in on Isaiah.

I don’t think I’ve ever read Isaiah 1 before, since verses 13-17 stopped me dead in my tracks last night. I read those verses in a few different translations and paraphrases just to make sure I was reading it right…and scarily, I was. The Message’s take on it hit me the hardest:

Quit your worship charades. I can’t stand your trivial religious games: monthly conferences, weekly Sabbaths, special meetings – meetings, meetings, meetings – I can’t stand one more! Meetings for this, meetings for that. I hate them! You’ve worn me out!

I’m sick of your religion, religion, religion, while you go right on sinning. When you put on your next prayer-performance, I’ll be looking the other way. No matter how long or loud or often you pray, I’ll not be listening.

And do you know why?

Because you’ve been tearing people to pieces, and your hands are bloody.

Go home and wash up. Clean up your act. Sweep your lives clean of your evildoings so I don’t have to look at them any longer.

Say no to wrong. Learn to do good. Work for justice. Help the down-and-out. Stand up for the homeless. Go to bat for the defenseless.

That’s some pretty harsh language from God! He says he hates our religious behaviors (conferences, meetings, church services, even prayers!) when our attitudes aren’t right. What I think God’s saying here – and what Jesus echoed when he got ticked off at the Pharisees and other religious folk – is that he hates two-faced followers. He can’t stand people who put on the act and pretend like they’ve got everything put together…because nobody, not a single one of us, does.

What does God tell us to do instead of all that religion?

Say no to wrong. Learn to do good. Work for justice. Help the down-and-out. Stand up for the homeless. Go to bat for the defenseless.

I couldn’t fall asleep for a long time last night because this passage was stuck in my head. I know I’m guilty FAR too often of that religious attitude that’s got God all worked up. I know I’m going to try my hardest to constantly keep my facade down and try to follow that command in Isaiah 1:17; I’d encourage you to challenge yourself to do the same.
